Súrion "Súri" Elendil

Post  Faelni on Sun Oct 09, 2011 6:12 pm

Name: Súrion "Súri" Elendil

Theme Music: M4 (Part 2) - Faunts

Gender: Female

Race: Elf

Age: 29

Birth Year: 9:03 Dragon

Birth place: Raleferin Clan, Rivain

Hair colour: Black

Eye colour: Brown

Physical description: Súri is a tall, slender, dark skinned elf that stands about 5'6" and weighs around 117 lbs. Her skin is very tan as are most who hail from the country of Rivain. Her shoulder length, dark hair is usually kept tied back tightly with a couple of loose locks braided and woven together with a feather. Also like many from Rivain, she has a variety of piercings and wears a multitude of bangles, earrings, as well as a beaded necklace. Very lightly armored, she wears part of the pelt from a white wolf across her shoulders and dalish leathers that leave her midriff bare.

Class: Rogue

Specialisation: Archery, Shadow

Favored Skills:
Rural Stealth - Life as a Dalish hunter has taught Súri many things. She is an excellent scout and knows how to hide well, particularly in rural, forested areas. Tree stands are as good for spotting trouble as they are for hiding from it. At least in terms of waiting for the right moment, she is also very patient. Her skill is has only limited transferability to more urban environments, but in a forest, Súri can make herself a ghost if she truly wants to.

Archery Talents - A skilled archer, Súri can take many different approaches to ranged combat. As a hunter, her main preference is to wait for the opportune moment and strike from a stealthy, advantageous position in the hopes of taking out an opponent before the opponent actually realizes there is a threat. While that is her preference she has enough skill to fire more quickly and amongst a group she can easily adapt to more of a suppression role, provided she has enough arrows to do so.

Trap making and employment - Sometimes larger prey require a more cunning strategy to take down. A well placed trap can make all the difference and Súri has the knowledge for both using and creating them. She has a particular knack for makeshift traps. Generally she uses her bow to end the suffering of anything caught in a trap quickly. If it is a human however, she may or may not extend that courtesy.

Occupation: Disgraced Exile

Advantages:
Highly Alert - Súri has always been alert. Perhaps it came with the skill set of being a hunter, but she naturally tends to pick up on things that other people might skim over during observation. With such an awareness of her surroundings she has an easier time becoming alerted to ambushes than others might, for example.

First Aid - Súri has a basic knowledge of non-magical first aid. While not so adept at alchemy herself, she understand how to make effective use of such things as well as how to clean and stitch up wounds, set broken bones, treat shock, etc.

Disadvantages:
Sense of Duty - Súri is committed to the Dalish even if the Dalish don't accept her for what she's done. So much so that she would gladly go out of her way to put herself in danger for one of her own, even if it meant her own life. She does not view city elves equally however, and likely wouldn't step in to aid one of them without sufficient reason.

Cursed - Súri is afflicted with the curse of lycanthropy, or as it is more commonly known, the blood of the werewolf. She is at the mercy of the moon cycles, and when the cycle reaches its peak at a full moon, an unavoidable transformation into a werewolf occurs. The increase in physical prowess is offset by a consuming blood lust which forces her to hunt and kill. She loses control of herself entirely and has no ability to distinguish friend and foe while transformed. To the best of her knowledge, there is no way to regain control of herself aside from waiting for the transformation to end.

Weapons/Armor: Súri wears very little armor to speak of. The armor she does wear is made of cured leather and consists of shoulder guards hidden underneath a white wolf pelt across her upper back, studded leather boots and a dalish glove on her right hand. She carries two weapons. If she finds herself forced into a close quarters situation she carries an eight inch serrated edged knife for self defense. For all other combat situations she carries a dalish scout's bow crafted out of ironbark called Fang, as well as a numerable supply of arrows.

Biography:
Born in 9:03 Dragon in the northern nation of Rivain, Súri remained in Rivain for the first eight years of her life in one of the semi-permanent Dalish settlements there in southern Rivain. There, the Dalish relations with humans were civil, even friendly at times. Most of the younger elves were sheltered from the harsher reality that they were not accepted elsewhere in Thedas. In 9:11, during her eight year, the Raleferin clan picked up and prepared to move south, for it was the time of the Arlathvhen - the gathering of clans.

It was a special time for young Súri, as it would be the first time she would experience the Arlathvhen. The older elves in her clan spoke of it highly. The clans were to meet somewhere within the free marches this year. Súri was excited to be sure, but she couldn't help but notice something was off. Elders warned the youths to avoid shems at all cost, whereas in Rivain these warnings were rarely given. Of course, she wasn't privy to the reasons why, and wouldn't truly discover why until much later on. Thankfully, there were no incidents to speak of. After the Arlathven concluded, the clans parted ways and Súri left with a deeper appreciation for her culture.

The next decade passed with Súri going from a child to a young adult. It was a different time, much different than the time she had spent in Rivain. Her clan had remained in the free marches for a time before their aravels headed south and east into Kirkwall territory and eventually into Orlais. As for Súri, the young elf was beginning to come into her own. She had trained with a bow from as early on as the time she could hold one. Others commented that she had the potential to become a skilled hunter and at a fairly early age she proved them right. She killed a white wolf and brought back its pelt - a prize she still holds onto, as the warm fur helps to alleviate the bitterness of the cold Ferelden air.

But the decade wasn't without its hardships and scars. Súri had her first run in with the ugly face of human bigotry around the age of 17 - about a year from the second and so far last Arlathvhen of her lifetime. A group of farmers had organized an impromptu militia after rumors spread of a dalish camp nearby that was stealing some of their crops. One of her clan's hunters was killed in the ensuing skirmish but rather than retaliate the clan picked up and fled the region, moving further south into Orlais. During the next meeting of the clans, Súri heard similar stories from other elves and couldn't help but notice that some of the youths she had met as a child were no longer with their clans. Too brash to stand idly by while the humans pushed them around, perhaps. Whatever their reasons, Súri didn't blame them for taking a stand, and the only anger she felt was toward the shems who had wronged them.

Afterward, the Raleferin clan traveled into the free marches once more. They remained there for a time but never stayed in one area for more than a year. They eventually ended up back in Southern Orlais with the intent of crossing the Frostback Mountain Pass into Ferelden, however when news came of the Blight the keeper decided against it. Though the delay saved the clan from dealing with darkspawn, it had unintended consequences for Súri around the year's end. The clan had nestled itself into the Arbor Wilds to keep away from human settlements. Blight or no, those tensions still existed. As she often did, she spent quite a bit of time hunting alone and was doing just that on one particular night. Something immediately felt wrong. The forest had grown unnaturally still, and the elf couldn't help but feel as if she was being watched. The attack came without warning from behind. A hulking black form lunged from the shadows, tackling her to the forest floor. The darkness made it difficult to make it out, but it was vicious. Súri somehow managed to get a hand to her knife but not before the creature sunk its teeth into her shoulder. She responded with a thrust of her knife and the creature erupted with a rage filled howl. It limped backward and sprinted off to disappear into the night.

Súri was left breathless and injured from the attack, but alive. She patched herself up and made her way back to her clan. It wasn't until much later in the month that she realized something was wrong. Slowly but surely disturbing thoughts grew in her mind. Her dreams were plagued with violent nightmares, and each night her head throbbed, but it was the thoughts of violence against her own clan that disturbed her the most. As the end of the month drew near she knew for sure something was wrong. She made the excuse that she needed some time alone and traveled into the forest. The transformation struck her later that night, and that violent bloodlust that permeated her thoughts for the past few weeks exploded in a frenzy, hunting down and slaughtering any creature of the forest she happened to find. It felt like a dream, but in the back of her mind she knew it was happening. Thoughts drifted back to the night where she'd been attacked, and even as she tried to deny it rational thought screamed the truth.

Werewolf. You've been afflicted with the curse of the werewolf.

She didn't want to believe it, but there was no denying the sight of the blood of some unknown animal that stained her hands. She didn't return to her clan until the next day. Keeping the secret proved to be a very difficult challenge. It killed her to have to lie to her own clan, but she knew the alternative was to be abandoned by them, and the thought of that happening tore her apart. Over the remainder of the year, Súri would continue to keep up the facade, and travel into the woods in solitude whenever the blood lust became too much to withstand. Rumors persisted amongst the clan, though none were able to guess at the truth. Though she was still horrified at what she'd become, she started to believe that living with her curse was possible.

When word reached the clan that the blight had passed, they eagerly moved on to the southern edge of the Brecilian Wood and there they stayed for a time. Though there were still scattered groups of darkspawn about the clan was careful about avoiding them. But eventually trouble came in another form. A human village that had received wind of the dalish presence protested violently by entering the forest and hunting indiscriminately. A human hunting party stumbled upon a dalish hunter and while no one was actually killed in the resulting stand off the hunter was injured to the point where he would likely never walk again. Anger broke out among the clan and the keeper decided it was time to move on.

By now Súri had reached the age of 29, an adult. Outraged, went against this decision and with two like minded others snuck out to the outskirts of the village in the night and attacked. The outrage she felt was so strong that it masked the warning signs - her nightmares were getting worse the past week or so, as they often did when a transformation was soon to happen. Worse still, the moon was approaching the height of its cycle. The skirmish that followed was a blood bath, and many humans ended up killed. During the fighting, Súri realized in horror what she otherwise had always taken precautions for. Amidst all that death, the transformation came on swiftly, and she fell upon the remaining humans like a terror, tearing them apart. In her blood lust she even killed one of her own clan mates. The other elf fled the scene to save himself and inform the clan what had happened.

When the clan returned to the village, they found the humans dead and Súri knelt over the body of the elf she had slain. The clan was heartbroken, and even fearful that a werewolf had been living among them for so long. Still, they knew her as their sister. Some of her clanmates even regarded her as a hero for taking a stand against the shems. Even so, everyone, including Súri, knew what had to be done. After giving the slain elf his final rites, the clan bade Súri goodbye for the last time and left her behind for good.

Personality:
Súri is torn between the deep resentment she has toward humans and the regret of some of her decisions that have spawned from those feelings. She doesn't regret doing what she did to the shemlen, per say, however she also understands how it did more harm than good for her clan. This has only served to fuel her resentment even further. Súri's feelings on humans border on outright hatred and while she doesn't direct such feelings toward her own kind, she has a hard time feeling pity for elves that live in human cities, feeling that they abandoned their ways to live among the humans.

Súri is fiercely loyal to the Dalish even in exile and holds strongly to the beliefs she was brought up with. Even as a hunter she is fairly well versed in Dalish lore. She is patient and methodical most of the time, though has in the past allowed her actions to be guided by emotion - particularly anger. Even during these times however, her methodical patience shows itself in a very brutal way.

When transformed, Súri's personality fades away to that of the werewolf. She becomes vicious and is consumed by a terrible blood lust that forces her to hunt and kill. There is no escaping it, and there is nothing that calms the terrible rage short of waiting until the transformation ends, to the best of her knowledge.

Though she understands that her exile was justified and even believes she deserves it. She understands that there is no way any clan would accept her among them because of what she has become, though she yearns to be among them again nevertheless.

Can I just say, you are awesome, Faelni? I love M4 (Part 2) by the Faunts. XD I was actually going to use one of their songs as Ayla's theme, but it was kind of a bit too depressing. XD Also, I think it's a bit sad that I recognised the name "Elendil" from Lord of the Rings. =_=;;

I look forward to learning more about Súri!

Bwahahaa! I finished more quickly than I anticipated! Let me know if the disadvantage I put there is actually an acceptable one since its pretty situational.

The disadvantage is fine, even though it's situational. The basic application doesn't even call for advantages or disadvantages and is more of an elaboration on your part, which is absolutely fine. She has some similarities to the dalish hunter I was going to make! XD Anyway, I look forward to seeing Súri in action!

APPROVED!
